About us

At the Glamorgan Record Office we can help you understand a bit more about the history of the county, the place you live, your ancestors who may have lived here, or many other aspects of Glamorgan. The documents we hold contain information about all sorts of Glamorgan people in the past - from leading members of the community to servants and the poor.

The Glamorgan Building,

The oldest Glamorgan document

These precious documents are unique and irreplaceable, and to ensure their survival records are accessioned and placed in environmentally controlled storage rooms. Cataloguing work is undertaken by archivists. The Conservation unit cares for the physical preservation of the collections by repair of documents and strongroom management.

Our searchroom contains space for the consultation of original documents and microfilm and microfiche readers. Our catalogues and indexes are on open shelves and a member of staff is always on hand to answer questions and point searchers in the right direction.

All this is achieved with a team of 18 staff, including 6 archivists and a conservator. More information about staff at the Glamorgan Record Office can be found at
