If
you are interested in becoming an archivist or a conservator,
or would like to spend some of your spare time helping out
at the Record Office, then why not organise a work experience
or volunteer placement with us?
Work
Experience Placements
Work
experience placements are normally undertaken by school
pupils and university students and teachers.
Work
experience placements provide an opportunity to see
what is involved in working in a local authority record
office. You can job shadow members of staff, work on
enquiries, and learn about different aspects of working
in archives, such as the conservation and preservation
of archive material, listing and indexing of records,
answering enquiries from the public and records management.
We
also have organised placements for local teachers who
wish to experience a work environment beyond the classroom,
and who would like an extended period of time away from
the school to conduct research and develop work plans
and resource packs for use in teaching. If you are interested
, ask your school's career services to contact us, or
get in touch yourself. |

Volunteering
If
you are able to volunteer regularly for a whole day, a morning
or an afternoon every week, we offer a chance of getting hands
on experience of archive or conservation work.
Volunteers
working at the Record Office include university students along
with retired people who have time to devote to helping the
Record Office, adding value to work produced by the staff
through their local knowledge or particular skills. Our volunteers
are currently working on projects including the creation on
an electronic database of Cardiff Rural District Council building
plans, and indexing of shipping registers for the Port of
Cardiff.

out some of the 'Volunteer Profiles' in our recent newsletters.
