Have you ever visited a religious building?

Cardiff has always been a town where there were people from lots of different backgrounds and religions.

There are lots of churches, chapels, mosques, synagogues and other places of worship in the city.

John Prichard was the Llandaff Diocesan Architect. This meant he worked on many of the buildings constructed for the Church in Wales.

Look at this plan of one of his churches.

1	Different parts of this building have different names. Write down all the names you can see.
2	Compare the two lists of names. Are any of the names the same?
3	Why do you think the two names are so different?

Now look at these plans of the church, another mosque and a synagogue.

	St Catherine's Church in Wales Church, King's Road, Canton.
Peel Street Mosque, Butetown.
	Synagogue and School Rooms, Clare Road.

These picture show the position of each building on the road.

4	What do you notice about St Catherine's church?
5	Compare the plans of the mosque and the synagogue. What is the same about them?
6	The mosque and the synagogue were both originally houses, converted into places of worship. What does this tell you about the number of people who used them?
7	St Catherine's church was built as a new building. What does this tell you about the numbers of people who used it?
8	Make a list of all the other religious buildings you know.
