The Collection

The Glamorgan Record Office holds archives relating to:

• the former administrative counties of Mid Glamorgan and South Glamorgan
• the administration of the county of Glamorgan before 1974
• ecclesiastical parish records of the Diocese of Llandaff and the Archdiocese of Cardiff

part of a pedigree roll

Archives are records accumulated naturally during the course of the life of a business, an individual, a family, a school, a chapel, or any other group, public or private.

Archives exist in a variety of formats according to their age – at the Glamorgan Record Office we have records on paper and parchment, photographic records, and records on electronic media, from the 12th century to the present day.

At the Glamorgan Record Office, we keep original records that contribute to the geographical area that we serve. We also acquire some published works for our reference library to supplement our archival collections.
