Navigating the Records

About 8 kilometres of records are held at the Glamorgan Record Office, but we have a range of finding aids to help you sift out the individual records that are important to your research. Some of these are available on our website and elsewhere on the web. Other finding aids can be consulted at the Record Office.

On our website

Parish Registers empty – a detailed list of registers for the Diocese of Llandaff and some other parts of Glamorgan. This list includes original material, transcripts and personal name indexes of the registers.

Non-Conformist Registers empty – a detailed list of registers and membership lists for non-conformist churches and chapels, including lists of personal name indexes.

Cardiff: the Building of a Capital – a searchable database of the building regulation plans for Cardiff, 1857 - c.1960 and the surrounding areas, 1875-1926.

The Hughesovka Research Archive - a table of contents of the records of the Welsh Community in Hughesovka in the Ukraine and the New Russia Company

Information Leaflets - a series of free leaflets with lists of records useful for particular areas of research.

At the Record Office

• Catalogues or Descriptive Lists – These are detailed lists of records with an introduction to each series. They are available as hard copy in the Record Office, but electronic copies, where they exist can be sent to you if you want to prepare for a visit here. We have a set of catalogues arranged by reference code and another by subject. These can be good starting point for your research.

Catalogue of Estate Maps – This is a published list and can be consulted in the office or you can purchase a copy.

• Indexes – We have alphabetical index cards that cover subjects, people and places.

• Reference Library – Our small reference library contains books and pamphlets relating to our holdings.

Our Staff – If you visit our office there are staff on duty who are there to help you and give guidance on research. Our staff are always happy to help, so please ask.
