Victoria and Albert Purchase Grant Fund 125th Anniversary

Over the past 125 years, the V and A Purchase Grant Fund has enabled regional organisations all over Wales and England to acquire objects as varied as Bronze Age rings, a Victorian kitchen range, a manuscript by Ted Hughes and Gainsborough drawings.

In 1995 the V and A came to the GRO’s rescue with a £30,000 grant to purchase the Fonmon Castle Collection. The Collection includes some remarkable documents from the Commonwealth period, including Oliver Cromwell’s funeral accounts, as well as correspondence between the family and the Wesley brothers, founders of the Methodist movement and a treasure trove of local and family history material such as deeds and rentals. Consult our Fonmon catalogues in the Document Searchroom or the Fonmon Archives entry on the ANW website for further detailsfor further details.
