We advise all visitors to contact the Office in advance to reserve a place in our searchroom, particularly in case of any unplanned closures leading up to, and during the move to the new building in 2009/2010.

During the move to the new Record Office we will be closed to searchers from Christmas 2009 for a period of at least three months, possibly extending to six.
We will try to maintain access to records for essential users during this time.

Registration

The Glamorgan Record Office has in place a registration system which requires all searchers to complete a Registration Card with personal details, including home address, telephone number and information about the research to be carried out.

This card must be completed on the first visit to the Office, and formal identification must be shown i.e signature and proof of address ( driving licence, credit card, domestic bill etc.). Registration cards are signed as an agreement to abide by the searchroom rules.
On subsequent visits to the office the registration card will be stamped with the date of the visit.

Data Protection Act 1998. the information provided will not be passed to anyone else. The card will be destroyed after five years, and will be kept during this period for internal purposes only.

Access

Entry to the Record Office and access to the searchroom is all on ground level.

Access to the Record Office is normally gained through one side of a set of double doors, both doors can be opened to enable access by wheelchair, however, a lone wheelchair user would need to contact the office just prior to their visit, so that the entrance can be suitably prepared for their arrival.
The building is old and some of the doorways are narrow, staff will be on hand to assist movement around the office if needed.

Disabled toilets and a University coffee shop (opening hours vary) are available in the building, although they are on a different floor they can be accessed easily and staff will be more than happy to direct, and if necessary, take searchers to the facilities.

If you require more information please do not hesitate to contact us.

Security

Lockers are provided for personal belongings such as coats, bags and briefcases as they must not be taken into the searchroom.
